Saint Agnes Parish is a 114 year old Roman Catholic parish community in the historic and socially conscious Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco, California. Known for prayerful Liturgies, well-prepared homiles, gracious hospitality, and vitality, Saint Agnes Parish draws men and women, young and old, straight and gay from the neighborhood and around the City and beyond to what some call "the last chance church!" It is truly Catholic - all are welcome.

The parish boasts of an urban Spiritual Life Center where people come for days of quiet and reflection,--or book discussions, or spiritual direction, --or bible study,--or a cup of espresso,--or to browse the library and book center. This Jesuit parish hosts two major retreats each year and a variety of studies, conferences, concerts, etc. In Advent and Lent, there are entire days devoted to the Sacrament of Reconciliation where people drop by from all over. On those days, Jesuits from throughout the Bay Area come to Saint Agnes to assist those who wish to receive this Sacrament.

If you are looking for a life-giving parish in San Francisco, welcome to Saint Agnes! And also expect to become part of the hospitality and outreach for others!

We the people of Saint Agnes are:

  • an urban community, rich in diversity of age, ethnicity, culture, talent, and treasure
  • a faith community, enlivened and empowered through Baptism to celebrate and proclaim the presence of Christ among us.

We declare to one and all that we commit ourselves to:

  • grow spiritually as disciples of Christ to become men and women for others
  • build community through hospitality, ecumenism and social and cultural events
  • understand cultural differences and accept them as sources of enrichment
  • give loving service and outreach to those in need
  • promote social justice issues in our neighborhood and in the larger community of city, nation, and world.

We pledge ourselves to be a light in the darkness through the love that we share in the name of Christ and through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
